messing about in boats

A Common Truth

Posted in Sailing by Joseph Moore on March 25, 2010

I’m sat here reading through the archives of Nick’s adventures on and just thinking about those people I know who are sailors. There seems to be a common truth amongst most sailors that I know; that they’re all well and truly skint. I’m sure the “rich yottie” stereotypes are out there – undoubtedly, waters across the globe are full to bursting with them every bank holiday weekend – but I don’t personally know any.

I know people who work in the industry to spend more time around boats, people who live on their yachts because it was either a boat or bricks and mortar, and people who take every available day off work just to spend time near the water. Funnily enough, I’m quite proud to be in that financially challenged, but dedicated and ultimately happy group.

Or maybe, just maybe, we’re all a bit insane.

Gee, I must be a sailor!

I’m skint, I have a boat and while I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m insane, I don’t think I’m quite normal (whatever normal is).

“skint” is a new word for me… I had to look it up.

but, yea, I fall into the broke category, slightly obsessed, but happy group as well.

slightly might even be an understatement!

    cheers, my2fish
